It’s been about a year since I blogged “Honor Thy Mother”. A lot can happen in a year, and it did. As I reflect on the year, I realize the things that got me through it are things my mom taught me. Also the good things I’m enjoying now, I’m able to because my mom showed me how to enjoy them. Like life for instance. How do you enjoy life especially in the middle of hard circumstances? I love what Psalm 131 says;
“My heart is not haughty, and my eyes are not lofty. Neither will I concern myself with great matters or things too profound for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child against his mother’s chest. Like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
I learned from my mother to go to the Word of God when I’m anxious. God always shows me what I need when I slow down and start reading. I learned that if I have inner peace, the problems in this world shrink and all of the sudden, I feel taller, bigger than them. The focus shifts from the problems to things I enjoy. I’m learning how to enjoy life while having to deal with things I don’t enjoy. The inner peace is what makes it possible. This is a great time to practice it- being hopeful and focusing on good things in times of uncertainty.
In what ways are you choosing to enjoy life in the midst of adversity?
